Week 91 chemo complete: Cancer levels increased

My Oct monthly blood test results show that my cancer levels increased. Although I say I have monthly blood tests, it is actually every 4 weeks so some months, like October I will have 2 tests.

According to my Hematologist (Blood Cancer Specialist):

The M Protein (Myeloma Protein) is only my abnormal protein, which is my myeloma or represents the cancer in my body as g/L. The igG and Beta 2 that I discussed before isn’t a complete accurate measure as they consist of good and bad proteins, while the M Protein value is all bad protein. If the M Protein value is zero, then no cancer is detected in my blood.

M Protein (g/L)
Oct = 2.5
Oct = 2.3
Sept = 2.8
Aug = value missing
July = value missing
June = 1.9
May = 1.7
Apr = 2.5
Mar = 3

My M Protein increased from 2.3 to 2.5 g/L, so right now there is more cancer in my bloodstream.

My Hematology profile (how my body responds overall to being on treatment) looks good.

Hematology Profile
Date WBC Hemoglobin Platelet Count Neutrophils

Sept 7.9 128 295 4.8

July 6.5 129 349 5.2
June 8.5 126 299 5.2

Apr 6.0 131 296 4.9
Mar 6.8 133 339 5.9

Last Thursday I went to Lynn Headwater Regional Park, North Vancouver and tried my hand at making a rock tower.

I always enjoy my time in nature.

To recap: On Sunday, November 6th, I completed Cycle 23 Week 3. I have Multiple Myeloma and anemia, a rare blood cancer. It is incurable, but treatable. From February to November 2013, I received Velcade chemo through weekly in-hospital injections as an outpatient. Since February 9th 2015, I have been on Pomalyst and dexamethasone chemo treatment (Pom/dex).

Weekly chemo-inspired self-portraits can be viewed in my flickr album.
