Week 134 of chemo complete: Made an owl friend in the forest

Friday evening I went back to Queen Elizabeth Park and found a quiet location for my self-portrait. I looked up and realized I was not alone, I was being watched by an owl, who just stared, without making a sound. It was a pleasant surprise and quite unexpected.

I enjoyed having an audience as I went about my photography, and waved goodbye when I left. Hope we see each other again soon.

What was also amazing is that earlier in the day it rained for the first time in forever. I left the house without an umbrella or jacket, because the forecast predicted a low chance of rain. I got soaked, but I had a smile on my face. We need more rainy days here.

Week 134 of chemo complete: My new friend is the silent type

To recap: On Sunday, September 3rd, I completed Cycle 34 Week 2. I have Multiple Myeloma and anemia, a rare cancer of the immune system. Multiple myeloma is a cancer of the plasma cells that affects the plasma cells, a type of immune cell that produces antibodies to fight infection. These plasma cells are found in the bone marrow. As a blood cancer, it is incurable, but treatable. Since February 9th 2015, I have been on Pomalyst and dexamethasone chemo treatment (Pom/dex). On July 16th, my dexamethasone treatment ended, due to eye damage, reported by my Glaucoma Specialist, from long-term use.

Weekly chemo-inspired self-portraits can be viewed in my flickr album.
