They did Dad’s labs yesterday and his white blood cells had gone up to 4.6. That’s normal! And a pretty big jump from the 0.1 he was on 12/12.
So they told us that we could leave today. Yay! This exceeded our expectations and we are very happy. If everything goes well, we will check out of the MD Anderson resort and spa (as Mom calls it) during the late afternoon and into the medical center Marriott. Dad will still have daily appointments and transfusions but they will finally be able to sleep without all the poking and prodding. They definitely need it.
We won’t know if he is in remission until they do a bone marrow biopsy in the next few months. But we don’t have to spend Christmas in the hospital.
Dad can start to receive visitors at the hotel, but we will need to get settled and everything first. There’s still a chance that Dad could end up back in the hospital because of something that he catches while out. In fact, all the nurses say that it’s pretty common. So we have to be very careful.
We appreciate all your prayers and support. Also, Mom’s friend Kit is having a hard time as her husband is in ICU. We ask that you pray for their family as well.
