It was pleasant to hear President Obama would bring the troops in Iraq back home by the New Year. Whether or not it’s a good idea is, apparently, is a matter of party affiliation. But I’m thinking about some very highly trained and motivated people coming home to a flat job market. I personally believe that the returing military is due the same considerations showered upon the survivors of WWII, and that a GI Bill should help and encourage them to continue education and buy a home, and to receive preference in the job marketplace. War is war and we owe it to these people. On a daily basis, the average soldier is operating sophistocated technology under pressures never experienced in the civilian workplace.
