I fly a quadcopter. Actually, I have a few of them. A quadcopter is a helicopter-like aircraft made as a cruciform, the brains and battery in the middle and motors and propellers at the tips of the cross. There have been quadcopters for some time, but they were incredibly expensive and tended to crash a lot. However, as electronics got smaller and lighter, and so did sensors, the inherent instability of the design was overcome. The day of the miniature autopilot merged with the day of the multi-rotor and devices were born so controllable and stable, that they make excellent aerial photography platforms and as security devices as well.
