So Challenge No1 was originally to get 40 myeloma patients to do 40 challenges (at someone’s suggestion!) to raise £4,000.
In retrospect that was silly and I crossed it off my list in my head quite a few weeks ago…many patients are living with the effects of chemo/ transplants/ myeloma per se. To expect many of them to do 40 challenges was ridiculous. If you’re in the throws of chemo or radiotherapy you don’t have any energy a lot of the time, can feel sick and really just feel pretty rotten. Post transplant, it is even worse with very low levels of energy….and doing too much can set you back massively. In addition, many people with myeloma have issues with their bones or kidneys. This can mean they are in pain a lot of the time and unable to get around like other people.
So on this basis, I have now changed Challenge One to see if we can get 40 patients to do just one challenge (more if they want!) – any challenge they like…it might be to walk 1km or it might be any one of my 40 challenges….or something totally different! Realistically, each patient will know what is a challenge for them….and therefore what people might be happy to sponsor them for. If each patient raised £100, it makes £4,000. Add that to the Lent Challenge, and my just giving page, and we can crack the £10,000 target easily!
The other nice thing about this Challenge, is that it doesn’t matter where in the world you are….you can still do the challenge! And every step of the way, we are raising awareness about what Multiple Myeloma is as well as raising money towards research and a better future for myeloma patients.
And if you do sign up, once you have set up your just giving page, please then go to http://www.justgiving.com/teams/40b440 and join our team page so that I know you’re involved and we can track the team as a whole Thank you! Or let me know via a message.
Please feel free to share this post with as many friends etc as you can….it would be great if we can get far more than 40 patients doing this challenge….just think how much money we could raise if we spread this far and wide!!
P.S This post takes me 25% into Challenge 19 – to write 40 blog posts. I’m not quite 25% into my 40th year so we’re on track for that challenge being completed too :-) All good!
