As California and a dozen other states prepare to allow their citizens to decide whether they have the right to know if their food is from genetically modified organisms (GMOs), agribusiness giants such as Monsanto, Dupont, Pioneer and Cargill have contributed nearly $25 million to defeat the California “Right to Know” proposal.Closer to home, Illinois Farm Bureau President Philip Nelson contributes to the misinformation by stating that current biotech products have been “proven safe” by USDA, FDA, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the National Academy of Sciences.
